Munster Technological University (MTU) student and Dungarvan native, Lucy Holmes (West Waterford AC) has been selected to represent Ireland in the upcoming U23 European Cross Country Championships (ECCC) on Sunday, December 8th in Antalya, Turkey.

This is the first time in the history of MTU, Cork Regional Technological College and Cork Institute of Technology that a student has qualified to represent Ireland in the ECCC, which is now in its 30th year.

Lucy, who is a Biomedical Sciences Student, had narrowly missed out on selections in the last 2 years, she qualified for the ECCC after placing 4th in the National U23 Cross Country Championships in Fermanagh.

Commenting on the achievement, Craig Harrington, MTU Athletics Development Officer said: “Over the past 5 years under the guidance of the MTU Athletics Coaches, Lucy has been one of the most consistent and hard-working student athletes that the university Athletics club has ever had. An ever present at all MTU trainings & competitions, Lucy has always put the university to the forefront of her mind. She has shown perseverance & diligence throughout her time at MTU. Nobody deserves this opportunity more”
